Check your marina and check-in time first
Split has several marinas in and around the city, and sailing trips do not all leave from the same one. Before you book any transport, check the marina name, address and check-in time in your booking confirmation.

Where Split airport is
Split airport is on the coast at Kaštela, west of Split and close to the old town of Trogir. It is a separate town from Split, so allow for a road journey into the city or along the coast to your marina.
The airport is busy in summer, and the coast road can be slow at peak times, especially on Saturdays when many charter yachts change over. Build in a buffer for baggage, queues and traffic.
Ways to get from the airport to the marina
- Airport shuttle bus. A dedicated airport bus runs between the airport and Split city centre, stopping near the main bus station and ferry port. It is a simple choice if your marina is in Split itself.
- Taxi. Taxis wait outside the terminal, and app-based ride services also operate in Split. A taxi takes you door to door, which helps with luggage if your marina is out of the centre.
- Local bus. Regular local buses run along the coast road between Split and Trogir, passing near the airport. They are the cheapest option and practical with light luggage, but slower.
Check current timetables and fares with the operators close to your travel date, as both change by season.
The main marinas around Split
Several marinas serve charter yachts in the Split area. In general terms:
- ACI Marina Split is in the city, at the foot of Marjan hill, a short walk west of the old town and Diocletian's Palace.
- Kaštela, the string of small towns between Split and the airport, has a large marina along its waterfront.
- Trogir, just past the airport, has marinas on and around the island of Čiovo, opposite the old town.
Travel times differ a lot between them. A marina near Trogir can be closer to the airport than one in central Split. Always check which one applies to your trip. Our guide to Split has more on the city itself.
Arriving by ferry or catamaran
If you are already in Croatia, perhaps on an island, ferries and fast catamarans run into Split's main harbour beside the old town. The port sits next to the main bus station and the railway station, so onward connections are close by.
Jadrolinija runs many of the state ferry and catamaran lines, and other operators run fast catamarans in summer. Timetables are seasonal, and popular crossings sell out in July and August, so book ahead and check schedules on the operators' websites.
Plan your arrival time
Flight delays happen, and missing check-in can be stressful. Some practical points:
- Compare your flight's arrival time with your check-in time, and allow several hours of buffer.
- If you are flying long haul or on an early departure, consider arriving the day before and spending a night in Split or Trogir.
- Keep your booking confirmation and passport or ID to hand for check-in.
For packing ideas, see what to pack for a sailing trip. Soft bags are much easier to stow on a yacht than hard suitcases.
Questions
How far is Split airport from the city?
The airport is at Kaštela, on the coast west of Split near Trogir. Journey time into the city depends on traffic, which is heaviest on summer weekends.
Which marina does my trip leave from?
Your departure marina and check-in time are in your booking confirmation. Do not assume it is the marina in the city centre.
